Madinah Ziyarat Itinerary: One Day and Three Days

Most historic places in Madinah fall into a few areas: the centre around the Prophet’s Mosque, the south towards Quba, the north-west towards Qiblatayn and the Seven Mosques, and the north at Uhud. Grouping visits by area saves time and lets you keep your prayers in the Prophet’s Mosque.

If you have one day

Pray Fajr in the Prophet’s Mosque. In the morning go south to Quba to pray two rak‘ahs, following the Sunnah of visiting it (Sahih al-Bukhari 1193), and see Masjid al-Jumu‘ah on the same route.

Late in the morning head north-west to Masjid al-Qiblatayn and the Seven Mosques area. In the afternoon visit Uhud, the Martyrs of Uhud and Jabal ‘Aynayn, then return to the Prophet’s Mosque for the evening prayers.

If you have three days

Day 1, the centre: the Prophet’s Mosque and the Rawdah (by permit), al-Baqi’ during its visiting hours, and the historic mosques near al-Ghamama.

Day 2, south and west: Quba, Masjid al-Jumu‘ah, Masjid al-Qiblatayn and the Seven Mosques at the foot of Mount Sela.

Day 3, north and museums: Uhud and its martyrs, Jabal ‘Aynayn, then the museums and exhibitions about the Prophet’s Mosque and the Seerah.

Tips

Plan around prayer times and the heat, and keep the main prayers in the Prophet’s Mosque where you can. Opening hours and access to some sites change; check on the day. Use each place’s “Open in Maps” link for current routes.
