The spiritual heart of Madinah and the mosque established by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ after the Hijrah.
Explore place →Madinah’s place in Muslim hearts rests on the words of the Prophet ﷺ himself. These are authentic narrations about the city, each cited by collection and number with a link to the full text.
The Prophet ﷺ said: “Allah named Madinah Tabah” (Sahih Muslim 1385). Tabah and Taybah both come from the root meaning good and pure, and this site takes its name from that meaning.
Returning from Tabuk, as the city came into view, he ﷺ said: “This is Tabah, and this is Uhud, a mountain that loves us and is loved by us” (Sahih al-Bukhari 4422).
The Prophet ﷺ declared Madinah a sanctuary (haram), whose trees are not to be cut and in which no wrongdoing is to be introduced (Sahih al-Bukhari 1867).
He ﷺ prayed: “O Allah, make us love Madinah as we love Makkah, or even more” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1889).
He ﷺ also prayed: “O Allah, bestow on Madinah twice the blessings You bestowed on Makkah” (Sahih al-Bukhari 1885).
He ﷺ said that faith returns to Madinah as a snake returns to its hole (Sahih al-Bukhari 1876).
He ﷺ said that angels guard the entrances of Madinah, and that neither plague nor the Dajjal will enter it (Sahih al-Bukhari 1880).
One prayer in the Prophet’s Mosque is better than a thousand prayers in any other mosque except al-Masjid al-Haram (Sahih al-Bukhari 1190), and the space between his house and his pulpit is a garden of the gardens of Paradise (Sahih al-Bukhari 1196).
The Prophet ﷺ used to go to the Mosque of Quba every Saturday (Sahih al-Bukhari 1193), and said that a prayer there carries a reward like that of an ‘Umrah (Sunan Ibn Majah 1412, graded hasan).
The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah named Madinah Tabah (Sahih Muslim 1385). Tabah and Taybah come from the root meaning good and pure.
